Obituary of Norma Bodie Kirby

Durham, North Carolina-Norma Bodie Kirby, 85, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in Durham, NC. Born June 29, 1936 to Vern and Hazel Bodie, Norma was a graduate of Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. After graduation she joined the United States Army and while at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. pursed additional training in dietetics. In 1962 she married Stephen Hiram Kirby Jr. After years in New Rochelle, NY and Richmond, VA, they settled in Durham in 1983. Norma was an accomplished pianist and avid reader. In addition to time spent with her grandchildren, one of the highlights of her retirement was travel to England, Scotland and Hawaii. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, and is survived by her sister, Margaret Bodie Hoover and children: Stephen H. Kirby, III and his wife, Lynne Moody; and Anne Kirby Bryan, and her husband Jamie. In addition, Norma is survived by 4 grandchildren: Lindsey Kirby and Carolyn H. Bryan, Alison A. Bryan and Anderson Bryan.
