On Thursday, April 8, 2021 our Mother completed her journey here on this earth 50 years to the day after our Father, Noble Gene Mitchem, passed after returning home from the Vietnam War in a single car accident in El Cajon, California, leaving her to raise 6 children by herself, with the help of many friends and family. She was born on November 4, 1931 to Tom and Ada Taylor Stallings of Snow Hill, North Carolina, whom are both deceased.

She is survived by five children, Virginia (Susie) and her husband Jerry Altman of Mebane, Jackie Stallings of LaGrange, North Carolina, Hallie Wayne Mitchem of Mebane, Sarah M. She called Mebane home for over 25 years while she lived with Susie and her husband Jerry, where she would always say that she was grateful to have a place to call home, she made friends easily and was always known to have a giving heart. Due to her declining health over the past year, she was able to have her grand finale with her family and loved ones in March of 2021 to have a farewell family reunion one last time. She was a loving Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was affectionately known as Gammy, G-Ma and G.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 beginning at 1:30pm with a time of visitation and a service to follow at 2:00pm in Snow Hill Cemetery in Snow Hill, North Carolina with the Pastor Ronnie Ezzell, nephew of Helen officiating. After the service the family will greet friends at the home of Sarah Davis, 1076 Beaver Creek Lane, Deep Run, North Carolina.
