Obituary of Pearl Simpson

Please share a memory of Pearl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Emma Pearl Berry Simpson of Rougemont, NC passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 5, 2021.   Pearl was born on January 22, 1931 to the late Jerome G. Berry and Clair Miller Berry in Caldwell.   She married Noah Simpson and they were married for 54 years.

Pearl worked second shift at American Tobacco Company for 36 years.   She enjoyed her job and friends at work.    After retirement  Pearl volunteered at Duke Regional Hospital and at the Hillsborough Hog Festival for many years.   She was an active, life long, member of Little River Presbyterian Church.   She attended most of the church’s functions and loved her church family.

Another of Pearl’s loves was the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department.   She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years.  Pearl spent many days and evenings with the members of the Caldwell Fire Department raising money, eating and having a good time.

Until her illness Pearl enjoyed dancing, country music, making Brunswick stew, plants and flowers and spending time with her friends and family.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband- Noah, her parents, siblings Lenox Berry, Hazel Cagle, Jerome (JG) Berry, Jr. and Roy Berry.   She is survived by two brothers:  Coy Berry and Daniel Berry and three sisters: Grace Parker, Mary Belle Jordan and Virgilene Poplin.   Pearl had many nieces and nephews on both the Berry and Simpson side who loved her and will miss her greatly.

The family would like to thank her longtime caregivers, Sharron Turner, Robin Kelly and Felita Harris for allowing Pearl to stay and pass at home.   You made the end of her life comfortable and the family is very grateful for all you do.

Your prayers and sharing your memories of Pearl are what her loved ones will cherish.     If you feel the need to donate please consider a donation to the Little River Church Cementary Fund, Duke Hospice or Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department.

The pallbearers will be Alex Crumbley, Andrew Crumbley, Alan Berry, Greg Berry, Jay Berry, Larry Blalock and Ricky Berry.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 11th at Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough from 4-6 PM.    The graveside service will be at Little River Presbyterian Church Hurdle Mills, NC, Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM.  Please remember to wear your mask for everyone’s  safety.
