Obituary of Margaret Faye Baker
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Faye Andrews Baker was born September 6, 1939, to James and Ruth Andrews. In her passing, she was known most by family and well beyond family as 'Nana.'
Margaret grew up as the third of four children. She is survived by Sister: Mary Frances Howard; and Brothers: Berry Jean Andrews and wife Joanne; and Walter Robert 'Bobby' Andrews and wife Nancy. She attended White Cross and Chapel Hill Schools. Married in her early years to lifelong love and late husband of Bobby Lee Baker. After moving around in local areas, Margaret and Bobby settled in the Orange Grove Community in their beloved home and endeared family-owned property of 55 years.
Margaret was a gifted, multi-talented woman of amazing strength. She was an accomplished lifelong seamstress, taking in sewing for others as she raised her children and making clothes for her children up through their teen years. She was leader of the 4H-Club and engaged often in community event activities encouraging youth and others to prosper and succeed. Her circle was large from the beginning, her children, her siblings' children, and that circle grew larger and larger as time moved on. After the passing of her Mother Ruth and dear and treasured Aunt Carrie Snipes, Margaret became central to her family, ensuring there were plans and gatherings that included all. She provided games and crafts and love for every occasion.
In subsequent years, Margaret performed as a decorative artist and Manager of William 'Billy' Authur Hobby Store, in Chapel Hill, NC. She developed her business and artistic skills in this period, engaging with customers, traveling to teach classes of decoupage, and allowing others to experience the joy of personal creativity. The products of her talents, paintings and specially designed articles are in her home and with her children now as memories of this time. In the final years of Margaret's career, she joined Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) as a customer representative. She spent over 15 years at BCBS interfacing with patients and customers and retired there with acknowledgement described by a customer as reaching an 'angel' at the other end of the phone.
Margaret and Bobby shared a beautiful life in the Orange Grove Community --- as well as in their second home for many years in Bogue Sound, Emerald Isle, NC. Together they were passionate in enjoying local friends, the changing of seasons, fishing, gardening, landscaping, birds, and beautiful quiet sea and country landscapes that captured time and sunsets over the years. Their children and the legacy of their union were the foundation of family and thread of strength, hard work, and togetherness that have evolved with deeply anchored roots.
Margaret personally found great joy and genuine sustainment in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, traveling with her children, engaging with her extended family, in holiday celebrations, her Church and Community. Dancing, laughing, singing, and always looking up to the sun. She was a woman of tremendous strength, energy, hope, and optimism. She was accepting of any and all those around her, a kind and beautiful spirit of hope that blessed and set an example for everyone around her.
Margaret and Bobby, deceased, are survived by Daughters: Anita Pope; Sharon Bone and husband Jonathan Seymour; Beverly Lankford and husband Reid; and Son: Rick Baker and wife Teri. Grandchildren: Brittany Bradley and husband Jonathan; Ryan Bone; Jeremy Baker; Jesse Bone; Ciara Marlowe and husband Tyson; Great Grandchildren: Declan and Asher Bradley.
