Obituary of Russell Roberts

Please share a memory of Russell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Russell “Russ” Earnest Roberts, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021 at his home.

He was born on July 4, 1926 to the late Vance and Ethel Roberts and was the last survivor of their children.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Donald and his sister Jean Homola.  Eighteen years ago he lost the love of his life, his wife of over 50 years, Edith “Eda”.

Russ grew up on his family’s tobacco farm where he embraced his love of  family, nature, hunting, fishing and a strong work ethic.  Russell also enjoyed sports (especially baseball) with his two brothers.  He graduated from Aycock High School class of 1944 and was off to Fort Bragg to train and serve his country in the Army.  In WWII he was stationed in France and Germany just after Hitler’s final surrender on his soil.  Russ was a simple man who enjoyed his life on his farm.  A great day for Russ was after the tobacco had been harvested and sold, he could take it easy—with a cold winter’s day, a few buddies, a shotgun, a covey of quail and the most important, a good bird dog!  Home that evening, pockets full of birds to clean and feast on later.  He had many great days and Russ had a wonderful life.

Survivors include his loving daughters, Paige Hansen (Alan) and Pam Kimrey (Doug); grandchildren, Rob Smith, Kyndel McKinney (Kevin), Katie Whitaker (Jessie) and Kassie Baker (Matt).  He also leaves two sister-in-laws; Edith S. Roberts and Billie P. Roberts,  four great grandchildren, Eleanor, Russell and Audrey Whitaker and Renna Baker as well as many nieces and nephews.

Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough is assisting the Roberts family.
