Delmar was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Boone Brown and his parents Tom and Jessie Parker Brown. Delmar graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1939. Growing up, longtime Hillsboro High School principal Grady Brown was his mentor and a positive influence in his life. In the 1940's, he was employed with Seaboard Railway in Raleigh as a Yard Conductor. While there during World War II, he captured two escaped German POWs that were hiding in a boxcar. In 1947, he opened Brown Motor Company which he operated over 65 years until his death. He served on the Orange County School Board in the early 1960's, was a past Master and longtime member of the Masonic Lodge as well as the Lion's Club. He is survived by his son Dale and his wife Martha Brown of Lewisville, NC; daughter Denise Brown of Hillsborough, NC; son Mark and his wife Elaine of Weddington, NC; as well as grandchildren Elizabeth Brown Mark, Derek Brown, Megan Brown, and Kristen Brown.
