Pat and I became kindred spirits with our love of decorating though she was far superior than I at it. That woman had a lot of class, acerbic sense of humor and smarter than most of us. I had a lovely time visiting her in NC and she helped me by coaching me through a challenging time with the medical care system.
We had lost contact over the last year and I so wish I'd known what was going on with her.
I missed the service since I JUST this minute got an e-mail from a mutual friend that she had passed away so I went searching.
My condolences to her niece about whom she talked lovingly.

A true friend knows the song in your heart and sings it back to you if you can’t remember the words. For nearly 45 years, Pat was that friend and I will miss her terribly.

As distant cousins sharing a common great grandfather, we did not connect until late in life but formed a warm bond on her trips back to New England visiting family. She was a witty and bright person and a delight to be around. One lasting memory of her was our visit to her beautiful home last February just as the pandemic was poised to swoop. She was the perfect hostess and insisted we take over the master bedroom for our stay. We agreed she would stay with us on her next visit to Massachusetts in the spring but, alas it was not to be. You fought the good fight, Pat. Rest in peace.

Who could have ever predicted that a chance encounter because of a canceled second leg of a trip to CA would create a friendship that would last for over 10 years? The minute I met Pat in that airport in Atlanta, I knew we would be great friends. We spent our overnight layover getting to know each other at the hotel bar where we learned that we were both from Chapel Hill and had mutual acquaintances. As the saying goes…the rest is history.
We had so many things in common and over the years enjoyed going to movies, dinners, and theater together, not to mention our long phone conversations where we fixed all the worlds problems, including some of our own. We laughed, we cried, we joked about being sisters from another mother and another planet.
Pat was a kind and good friend…a great listener, a wonderful resource for all things medical, a lover of animals and she was smart and beautiful inside and out. She was sassy, witty and creative. She made a big difference in the lives she touched by taking so little and giving so much.
Her horrendous diagnosis did not know what it was up against! Pat was truly a warrior princess during all she endured over these past few months. She will be terribly missed and without her, the Universe is now sadly less than it was.
My heart is broken by this terrible and sudden loss. Pat, I will miss you dearly, but I am so grateful for having known you.

A dear and wonderful friend to us! We have lovely memories of Pat, especially those of our trip to Camden, Maine several years ago...and there are many others, Special times we have spent together - great conversations, in person and on the phone - dinners we shared, shopping for clothes, shoes, trinkets. So many things we did together...Pat is greatly missed!
