Obituary of Gwendolyn Carol (Lee) Boggs

Gwendolyn Carol (Lee) Boggs passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020, after a brief illness. She was a resident of the Elmcroft of Hillsborough Assisted Living Community.

Gwen was born on April 21, 1937 to Clarke Willis and Dorothy Cecilia Lee in Denver, CO, and was the eldest of two children. After graduating from South High School, she married Robert Newell Boggs at the South Presbyterian Church in Denver on June 18, 1955. While residing in Denver and Littleton, CO, Gwen devoted her life to her family, and she and Bob brought four children into the world, including a set of identical twin girls.

In 1971 the family moved to Marshfield, MA, where Gwen and Bob raised their children, ran a ceramics business from their home, and lived until moving to Chapel Hill, NC in 1990.

Gwen was an avid bridge player, and while helping her husband run a local contract bridge business called The Bridge Center, she also earned her contract bridge Life Masters status. The Bridge Center closed its doors in 2010.

Gwen was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bob, her sister, Cherilyn Wright of Texas, her son, Kevin Clarke Boggs of Farmer City, IL, and a son-in-law, Chris Barszcz of North Kingstown, RI. She is survived by her three daughters, Kerrie Kim Hanley and spouse Leo of Hillsborough, NC, Kristie Kay Barszcz of North Kingstown, RI, and Karole Lee Johns and spouse Richard of Winchester, VA. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Erin Carol Boggs of Farmer City, IL and six grandchildren: Katherine Elizabeth (Barszcz) Pronovost and spouse Matthew of Thomaston, CT, Alexander John Barszcz of Coventry, RI, Nathan Andrew Hanley of Gastonia, NC, Forrest Clarke Boggs of Holly Ridge, NC, Noah Aaron Hanley of Raleigh, NC and Logan Casey Boggs of Farmer City, IL.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Friday November 27, 2020 at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association.

Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill is assisting the family.
