Obituary of James Matthew Farthing

James Matthew Farthing, Jr. of Hurdle Mills died April 4, 2020 at the age of 27.

James is survived by his wife, Jessica Farthing, his young daughter, McKenna Kacie Farthing, his parents Pastor James and Laura Farthing, Sr., his brother Ryan Farthing, sister Alyssa Farthing and his grandparents Marvin and Cynthia Mallett. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Scott Hackler, Father-in-law, Rodney and Kellie Matthews, Mother-in-law, Brother in-laws Zackary and Gavin Matthews, Sister in-law, Chloe Matthews, along with aunts, uncles, lots of cousins and a tribe of friends that are family. 

He is preceded in death by his Grandpa, Rudy Clay Farthing, Sr., Grandma, Shirley Mae Lucille Farthing and his Uncle, Michael Wayne Farthing.

James was born on June 27, 1992 at Marine Corp Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. His family eventually settled in Hillsborough, North Carolina where he graduated from Orange High School in 2011 and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He married his wife April 8, 2017 and began their life with their daughter, McKenna in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina. James was employed at Talbert Building Supply where he was Lead Receiver of Mill Works. 

James had the biggest heart, laugh, love for life and his beloved Tarheels – Go Heels!!!  His favorite places to be were home with his family, on the softball field with his teammates and on his video games. If you knew James, you were always greeted with a hello hug and goodbye hug. James never met a stranger.

The family will be hosting a floating visitation Friday, April 10, 2020 from 2pm-6pm at the resident of James and Jessica Farthing.  Please contact a family member for the address.  A memorial service to celebrate the life of James Farthing will be scheduled at a later time.
