John was one of the best uncles one could wish for.
He was very understanding and kind. I will truly miss him.
There are several memories I have of him growing up but the one that sticks out in my mind was his fearlessness of snakes. When him and Daddy went down to the old pump house out back in the woods, Uncle John would just reach in the doorway and grab any snakes overhead and just toss them out. You have to respect a man who could handle snakes like he did. Especially someone like me who doesn't like snakes.
God bless his family and friends.

John was the greatest! I never had a dad and he stepped into that roll for me and my sister. To say we were lucky is an understatement. I remember all the Christmases and all the fun me, my sister Christina, Scott, Johnny, Candi, Krysti, Robin and Bobby had as kids at John's house. The trips in the RV with them and Ken and Joyce. He was a true example of what a man should be! He gave us away when we were married and always gave us advice when we needed it. Losing him so suddenly has been hard, but I'm thankful he went peacefully. I will always love him and I will always miss him! I hope he knows the impact he had in my life and how much he truly meant to me! RIP Dad (John)! Love you!

John was one of the kindest, easy-going, and selfless people I’ve ever met. He never met a stranger and was willing to lend a hand to anyone. He did so much, not only for my family but for many others. I am so grateful to have had John in my life. I thank the entire Blackwood family for sharing him with my family over the years. I will cherish the times we had together.

We were on a family ski trip. I saw dad sitting talking with a lady. He must have spent at least 30 minutes with her. Later I asked who she was. He said it wasn't anyone he knew. He just saw her there and noticed that she was upset. That was how dad was.
I've heard several stories of him stepping in to deescalate conflicts involving outnumbered people he didn't even know. He had the people skills to talk people down from emotion and back to reason.
He believed in helping others and standing up for the underdog. He even did that as a child.
