Obituary of Della Rae Wilcox Womble

Chapel Hill - Mrs. Della Rae Wilcox Womble, 86, wife of the late George Thomas Womble, died Friday at UNC Hospitals.

Mrs. Womble was born September 20, 1932, to the late Selma Warren and Taft William Wilcox.  Ms. Della worked for a number of years at Glenwood Elementary School, before becoming a Sterile Technician at UNC Hospitals for over 12 years.  She was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church in White Cross.

Ms. Della is survived by her sons, Neil Womble, of Chapel Hill, Tim Womble of Raleigh; daughter, Cynthia Womble of Chapel Hill; brother, Robert Wilcox, of Mountain City, TN; sisters, Ilene Cuddy, of Mountain City, TN;  Naomi Butner, of Hurdle Mills, NC; Carolyn Higginbothom, of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Neil Womble, Jr., Kristi Rae Burnette; great grandson, Jayden Burnette; and great-granddaughter, Jayden Burnette.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Womble was preceded in death by her brothers, Edd Wilcox, John Wilcox, JB Wilcox, and her sisters, Mary Lee Icenhour, Ola Mae Scott, Maxine Icenhour, Bernice Mullins; and her step-mother, Bertha Wilcox.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 30 at 2:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church, Rev. David Atwater officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
