Jill Foltz Craver Galloway, 81, died peacefully at her home on January 22nd 2019 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, due to cancer.
She was born on December 7th, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC to Sarah and Schallert Foltz. She was the second of their three children. She was a graduate of Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina and taught elementary school. Jill was first and foremost a dedicated mother. She treasured her family and rejoiced in their happiness. She was married to Larry, her high school sweetheart in 1960. They welcomed two sons, George and David, and raised them mostly in Florence, SC. Larry’s life ended far too early and left her a widowed mother of two school age boys. She was their rock in a time of grief. Jill married the second love of her life, Robert Galloway, in 1983 and they shared 32 happy years together. Throughout her life, Jill was passionate about her sons, her granddaughters, and her “Blue Boys” the UNC Tar Heels.
She is survived by her loving sons, George Craver, Jr. of Durham, NC, and David Craver of Riverside, CT, along with daughter-in-law Vicki and grandchildren Katie, Ainsley, and Eliza; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Gayle Foltz of Reno, NV; aunt Bonnie Woodruff of Orlando, FL; stepson Charlie Galloway and his wife Parul and son Kethan, all of Chapel Hill; stepdaughter Meg Galloway Clark and her husband Shane and sons Drew, Trey, and Matt, all of Browns Summit, NC.
She is predeceased by her husbands Larry and Robert as well as her sister Jane Foltz and beloved dog, Colby.
A private family memorial service will be held in accordance with her wishes.
Her caring nature and choice to see the best in people will be missed by all. Her willingness to strike up conversations with total strangers expanded her circle of friends over the years. The family would like to thank caregiver Carrie Bagley for several months of love and support as well as UNC Medical Center’s Hospice Care for their care during her last days. In addition they thank the many friends and neighbors who have shown their love and support. Memorial donations may be made to UNC Hospice through UNC-Chapel Hill, PO Box 309, Chapel Hill, NC 27514-0309.
