What a great friend. Earl was one of the first people we met when we moved to Pecan Plantation. He was also one of the last people that we said goodbye to when we departed to Georgia 12 years later. Needless to say there was NEVER a dull moment when Earl was around. Greg enjoyed flying with him at Pecan and learning about early Delta, as well as Greg's Delta colleges shared MANY colorful stories about EPP. I had the pleasure of playing tennis with Earl quite frequently, like once a week for 10 years. We always bet on service aces. I always paid off with a beer promptly at his doorstep on the many times he aced me. But on the other hand, when I aced him it took forever to get paid off until one day we returned from the store and found wine coolers hanging from a tree in the yard, and that's how EARL did it. hahahaha We will always love and miss him very much. Deepest sympathies are extended to the family of Captain Earl Epperson on behalf of Delta Golden Wings (DGW), a fraternity of retired and active Delta pilots. After having served his country in the Second World War, Earl began a 36 career as a pilot for Delta carrying thousands upon thousands of passengers safely on their journeys. i met Earl shortly after i moved to Pecan Plantation in 2007 and what a guy, what a character! He was a joy to be around and always had great time visiting with Earl and listening to him telling stories about the good old days. Earl made a number of various generous contributions to Pecan Tennis Association and i want to do a write up on him in next edition of the Columns magazine. Pls. accept my sincere condolences on Earl's passing but at same time i will be " TOASTING " him on a life well lived. we will Definitely miss EARL BILL LANUS PPTA PRES.

Hello Epperson Family, I'm a neighbor living in the area. Having heard of your most recent loss, I want to leave you a brief post. I too, well know the grief of losing love ones , and that at times like these, it is encouraging just to know that others are thinking about us. Something that has really helped me to cope with such losses, is the wonderful promise of Christ Jesus, recorded for our comfort at John 5 :28,29. I hope, that when you are feeling up to it, that you are going to look up these powerful Scriptures in your copy of The Bible. Rusty, Steve, and Tim, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I never got to meet your Dad, but there was one occasion when he was a hero to our family. A call to your Mom resulted in your Dad helping my brother Chuck get home for Christmas when he was in the Air Force. Flying military stand-by, wherever he was, it appeared he was staying; slim chance of getting home. Whatever your Dad did, it worked. Chuck never forgot that, nor did we. Chuck passed away May of last year. Remembering what you Father did for Chuck is such a good memory. Your Father was a very special person.

Earl was a great friend with a wonderful sense of humor. Many tennis games on many different courts, along with a few flights in his airplane were always entertaining and full of fun. A very generous person except when playing for money on the golf course, Earl was a delight and never in a bad mood. We have talked many times since he left Texas, and he always planned to come back to stay, but he really belonged with his sons. He really left a vacancy when he left Texas, and now leaves a real vacancy with friends and family. He was one of a kind.

Steve, Tim and Rusty, So sorry for your loss. Earl was such a good, kind and fun person to be around. We enjoyed his friendship thru many years living next door in Pecan. Earl was the epitome of an airline pilot. His Hollywood looks, southern charm, humor and wit, delighted his lucky passengers and caused near worship to the crews who were fortunate to share a his cockpit. I was one of those and will miss him terribly. My condolences to the family of this very special man who brought such pleasure to myself and others. Rest in peace Captain. William L Ippolito
