Obituary of Walter Sikora

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Walter Steven Sikora was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1943 to Clarice May Sikora and Thaddeous Steven Sikora.  He died of natural causes at his home in Mebane, NC on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the age of 75.

Walter attended Manual High School in Louisville.  He earned a BA at Bellarmine College, a private Catholic university in Louisville, Kentucky.  He earned an MA in philosophy at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, and a MF in library science from Indiana University in Bloomington.  He was married in 1980 to Cathy Hanby-Sikora.  They have two sons, Ethan Michael Sikora of Chapel Hill and Adam Nathaniel Sikora of Greensboro—both born in Bloomington, Indiana.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam years, stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland.  Professionally Walter worked as a master piano technician in Bloomington, Indiana and, then, in Chapel Hill, NC for many years.

Walter was a talented musician, often playing with musician friends in local venues in Chapel Hill, and often hosting pot-luck dinners that featured many friends playing traditional music in the living room until late in the evening.  Friends came to look forward to those evenings, and many brought instruments and played.

Walter was predeceased by his mother, his father, his sister Lynne Watson, and his nephew Chris Watson.

A memorial service was held at Walker’s Funeral Home on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1 pm.  His ashes were buried with family in Indiana.

Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to care for Walter's family.
