Norman Harold Kane Jr., 88, of Chapel Hill, NC, husband of over 50 years to the late Michal (Lowenfels) Kane, died Sunday at his home in Chapel Hill, NC. Born in 1924, he was a son of the late Norman Harold Kane, Sr. and the late Madeline Elizabeth (Chadwick) Kane. Mr. Kane received undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He served in World War II as an ambulance driver for the British Red Cross. Mr. Kane was a rare book dealer who never retired, working up until the time of his passing. He was an Emeritus member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America. Mr. Kane is survived by two daughters, Felicity, wife of Gerald Newton, Raleigh, NC; Thomasin, wife of Staples Hughes, Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Nora Hughes, companion of Chris Ritchie; Evan Hughes; Russell Newton and wife Amanda; Katherine Newton; and one great grandson, Rowan Ritchie. He was predeceased by his wife Michal, son Garrett Kane and brother Robert Kane. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Friday at the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St. Pottstown, PA. Officiating will be Reverend Barry L. Moyer. Burial will be in Shenkel Cemetery, North Coventry Twp., Pottstown. Relatives and friends may call from 1:00 until 2:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the North Carolina Botanical Garden, www.ncbg.unc.edu. Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA. Following the service there will be a funeral procession to the cemetery.
