Dear family of sweet Helen. I am very sorry for your loss. Keep close your beautiful memories. You have a wonderful woman to remember. My daughter, who Helen referred to as "Baby" will never forget her, either. I will have a Mass said for Helen's holy soul. Love to you all. Patricia Pace and Mary Pace Blum.

This noble woman had suffered. Her father was imprisoned by Russia; her mother was forced to flee the family farm (Poland) with infant in arms. Father was imprisoned, having committed no crime, other than to have been a land owner. There was a regime in power so evil that its crimes were unspeakable. We are so fortunate to live in this country. I give thanks every day.

Helen was a dear friend who was known to me as Helen, and to my little daughter, as Cioca. She was a lovely woman who had suffered because of the imprisonment of her mother, baby brother, and father, by Russia. She eventually obtained freedom for her mother and brother, but her father did not survive the stress and imprisonment of self and family. When Russian soldiers approached their farm house, the mother said to her children, "Run". She had her baby son in her arms. Sister Helen became a brilliant physician, who suffered much pain due to the cruelty imposed upon her family, simply because they owned a farm, coveted by Russia. Helen was an RN at that time, and earned her MD while hiding from the Russians during the following few years. I met her through my father, who told me that there was an MD kicking a foot press in his factory. I asked my father to invite Helen to our home to have dinner and to get to know her. We became good friends. I ran a private maternity home. Helen was a great asset to our new business, in more ways than one. After grocery shopping one day, Helen walked over to my car. She looked pale. She said, "Pat, I saw a cat. "Baby" may not go outside. I realized that she referred to a mountain line, as our houses were at the foot of Bethany Mountain. I am an RN and Helen was, of course, a physician. She was a great friend and an example of how a daughter should treat and respect her mother. Helen divorced and remarried. She has passed to a "better place". I will always love her. She was and will always be, a treasured family member.

Helen, as we called her, was the sweetest, most honorable person I have ever known. Her English was limited, but exquisite. Once, we were talking together in the living room, when my infant daughter, who was upstairs for a nap, began to cry. Helen looked at me and said, "I am". Perfectly put.

Did Helena once have the name of Kopik? Helena Piotrowska Kopik was a dear friend, but I had lost track of her.
