I was so saddened to read of Johns passing. John and I were companions in music school together at ECU. He was also my big brother when he recruited me to pledge Phi Kappa Tau fraternity in 1962 and encouraged me to follow in his role as chaplain when he completed his term. Although we lost touch over the years, he was frequently in my mind when I returned to complete my degree at ECU after my assignments to Viet Nam. My thoughts are with you in his loss.

I have many, many fond memories of John. I will mention just one: When Betty, Jan, and Lorra were stuck in snow in Raleigh, John, a terrific cook, made my favorite Florentine Spaghetti, walked down to my house and walked me to his house to eat. I guess he thought I might fall in the snow and not be able to play the organ. It could not have been better as was all his cooking. After the Aldridges moved from Laurinburg, I visited them in New Orleans and Chicago. My love and deepest sympathy to Lorra, Jan, and Chezzie.

I remember taking a hiking trip in the Blue Ridge Mountains with John and a friend of his when I was a teenager.. It poured down rain the whole time but John made it fun and I learned a lot about nature and how to camp. He was a lovely man and I always enjoyed being in his company. I hope he is with Betty and at peace. I miss them both. Much love to Lorra and Jan during this sad time and always. You guys are my family and I love you both so much.
