Francois was one of the first professors I meet at UNC during my recruitment weekend, and he taught my graduate statistics class. His energy and character were unique, and he will be greatly missed.

Words seem so inadequate. Francois was smart, kind, and generous. I will never forget Francois’ support of my scholarly endeavors. It was so important to me. Sociology and the social sciences are so much the poorer now Francois is gone.

We can look forward to the day when there will be no more sickness and death. Revelation 21:4 says: "And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". God cares for the brokenhearted; Psalm 34:18 assures us that he is close to them. Please accept my sincere condolences. Always remember God loves you and he cares for you! (Psalm 147:3; Isaiah 41:10; 13)
