Obituary of Henry Steven Jackson

Henry Steven Jackson, 71, passed away on April 27, 2018 at Duke University Hospital. He was born on May 15, 1946 in Davidson county to the late Olive Belle Burnett (Stainback).

Raised in the Raleigh area in the presence of a large family, Henry lived in various areas of the country prior to settling in Chapel Hill in 2008. Known as “Doc” to most of his friends, he became an active member of Union Grove United Methodist Church and several other organizations. He could often be found wandering the streets of Chapel Hill, talking with his many friends.

In addition to his mother, Henry was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Gordon Stainback, his sisters, Mary Braxton and Louise Stainback Jones, and his brother Andy Colson.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews including, Michelle M. Jones, Joshua M. Jones, Joel Colson, Tony Colson, Larry G. Braxton, and Pery “Peanut” Atkinson, a cousin, Sylvia Wood, and many other members of his extended family.

A service to celebrate Henry’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Union Grove United Methodist Church, 6407 Union Grove Church Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278. A reception will follow.

Henry’s cremation was arranged through Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC. His ashes will be scattered as he directed prior to death.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Union Grove United Methodist Church to defray the costs of cremation.
