Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard ‘Dick’ Campbell, 83, passed away at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice, in Pittsboro, NC, March 14th, 2018, due to vascular dementia.
Dick was born January 26th, 1935, to his parents Frank and Elenora Campbell, then of Detroit, Michigan. He completed his Bachelor of Science at Michigan’s Wayne State University in 1957 having married his sweetheart, Lea Marie Schwartz, the previous year. The Campbell family moved to Novi, Michigan and also lived in Fishkill, New York and Oakland, New Jersey until retiring in Hilton Head Island, SC, in 1997, following 37 years of highly respected work with Bristol Myers Squibb.
Dick’s interests were many, though none held greater priority than those of his family. Among other important aspects of his life, Mr. Campbell was an active member of the Hilton Head Island-Van Landingham chapter of the Rotary Club in SC, as well as an avid tennis player (often trouncing men a couple of decades junior to him), and a great lover of music, often performing with the Hilton Head Island Barbershoppers, a barbershop-style singing group.
Dick is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Lea, and their seven children, Jim, Lynne, Sharon, Bob, Jeff, Beth and Jill -- along with 9 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dick’s brother, Donald, passed away in 2006.
A memorial service will be held on March 31, 2018, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Walker's Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, or other offerings, the Campbell family requests donations be made in Richard ‘Dick’ Campbell’s memory to the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice, of 100 Roundtree Way, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
