Obituary of R. Leon O'Briant

Title : R. Leon O'Briant August 20, 1934 to April 24, 2013 R. Leon O'Briant died on the evening of Wednesday April 24 after a brief illness. He was born in Greenville, SC, resided in Raleigh, NC for most of his adult life and had lived in Mebane, NC since 2007. He had two years of honorable service in the US Army in the 1950's and was a graduate of East Carolina University. He retired as a supervisor of corporate out-of-state tax auditors for the NC Department of Revenue. He enjoyed reading and studying history and he was also an avid collector of antiques, specializing in the restoration of early electric clocks. He was beloved by family and friends for his generosity, kindness, wit and his gift of story-telling. He is survived by his son James, daughter-in-law Janete, brother Guerry and sisters Alene Thomas and Linda Justice. A wiewing will be held at Walker's Funeral Home (919-942-3861) at 120 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, to be followed by cremation.
