Thomas George Anderson
DURHAM — Thomas George Anderson lost his battle with lung cancer January 7, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham, N.C. Mr. Anderson, a decorated Navy veteran, had been a resident of Durham and Chapel Hill for more than thirteen years. He was a heavy equipment operator in the area's construction trades. Thomas Anderson was sixty-one years old, the son of George Mayhew Anderson and Helen M. Fuller of Oxon Hill, Maryland, born in Washington, DC on November 15, 1952.
He leaves behind his life partner and great love, Elisabeth M. Williams of Durham, his beloved son Ronnie Nathan Anderson and two grandchildren in Baltimore; his sister Alicia Chase of Springfield, Virginia and a brother, Alan Anderson of Clinton, Maryland. In recent years Tom Anderson worked as a landscape architect and builder in the Hyco Lake area of North Carolina. After several years in the Navy as a boatswain's mate aboard the USS Enterprise, the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, Anderson overcame alcohol addiction and became a generous, protective and loving partner to Elisabeth Williams. Elisabeth, her sister Mary Mount and brother Thom Mount respected, appreciated and will forever miss Tom, his great heart and dry wit.
He will be buried at Markham Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 11 at 2 pm, arrangements through Walker Funeral Home. Tom Anderson's contribution to Elisabeth William's life will never be forgotten.
