Edward Thomas Hayes (Ed) passed away February 23, 2014 at his home in Pittsboro, NC. He was a five year survivor of a heart transplant and lived his gifted years to the fullest.
Edward was born in Chicago, IL to the late Edward A. Hayes and Mary Margaret (Brown) Hayes. He received his BA and MA from Illinois State University, and hid professional life was dedicated to teaching children with special needs. He moved to NC in 1980 and taught in Public Schools, a Residential Setting for children and in the State Hospital.
Edward possessed a strong love of family and leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Lucy Lee Hayes; his sons John Edward Hayes and William Daniels; two loving sisters: Mary Pat Zehr and husband Roger, and Lynne Ann Hosutt and husband Kent. In addition, he loved his extended family including two brother and sisters-in-law and five nieces and nephews and a great nephew. Edward was often teased that he never met a stranger. He could and would talk to anyone. He leaves behind numerous people on whose faces he hoped he left a smile.
