Obituary of Kathleen Ridgeway Brooks

Kathleen Ridgeway Brooks 11/13/24-3/28/14 passed away peacefully at WhiteStone/The Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro NC, surrounded by loved ones. Kathleen was born in Honea Path, SC., was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Kenneth Brooks, Jr. and her parents Robert Talmedge Ridgeway and Ruth Ridgeway of Princeton SC . Also two brothers, Bill and Joe Ridgeway, of Friendship, SC. She is survived by two daughters, Kay Brooks Alley (Mrs. David) of Richmond VA and Ann Brooks Marlow (Mrs. Doug) of Pittsboro NC, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Also survived by 3 sisters, Marcelle Black (Mrs. Guy) of Friendship SC, Bobbie Leopard (Mrs. Charles) of Greenville, SC and Peggy Ridgeway of Belton, SC. Kathleen lived in Chapel Hill from 1946 to 1950 while "Sonny" was a UNC student, then returning later to co-own and manage the Village Answering Service. Before retiring she was the proud house mother at Zeta for almost 10 years. She was a member of Carrboro Baptist Church, often enjoying the position of church hostess, and later Farrington Road Baptist Church. Kathleen was an active member of the University chapter of Eastern Star, holding the position of Worthy Matron from 1977-78. Also an active supporter of the OES Camp Rainbow in Boone, NC. She was never happier than being surrounded by young people. She was also an active member of the Altrusa Club of Chapel Hill. A memorial service will be held at WhiteStone/The Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro on Sunday, April 6th at 3pm. Funeral servies will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 3rd at Farrington Road Baptist Church, Farrington Road and Rt 54, Chapel Hill, with a reception following in the church social hall. Interment following at approximately 3:30pm at the Chapel Hill cemetery, Rt 54 (Raleigh Rd) and Country Club Road The family wishes to thank the staff at WhiteStone and Hospice Care of Greensboro for their kind and comforting care for Kathleen in the 12+ years she lived there.
