Obituary of Walter Lee Dunn

Pittsboro Walter Lee Dunn Jr, 65, passed away peacefully at his home on May 4th, 2014 in Pittsboro, NC surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Walter was born September 20th, 1948 in Golden Meadow, LA the son of Lola Bert and Walter L Dunn Sr. Walter was a retired law enforcement officer with the UNC Campus Police Department where he spent 30 years until his retirement as Major in 1999. Walter was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always put his family first above himself. He loved working outside on his tractor and other heavy machinery (even though we knew he was just moving dirt from one corner to the next) along with working on projects around the house and farm in his free time. He married Linda W. Dunn December 18th, 1965 in Chapel Hill, NC and they were happily married for 45 years. Walter is survived by his daughter Dorothy Dunn Glosson of Pittsboro, NC, his son David Dunn of Charlotte, sisters Patricia Schukis of Jacksonville, FL and Shirley Esponge of Grand Isle, LA and step brother Thomas Ramos of Kokomo, MS. Walter is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Jenna, Brandon, and Hunter Glosson and 2 great grandchildren, Ally and Aiden. He was preceded in death by his parents Lola Bert and Walter Sr, his wife Linda, and son Walter Lee Dunn III. Also preceding Walter in death was his brother Freddie Dunn, sisters Betty Jean Cheramie, Edwenia Terrebonne, and Linda Tuttle. Walter will forever be remembered for his sharp wit, sense of humor and constant sense of selflessness to his family and friends. A visitation will take place at Walker's Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin St, Chapel Hill, NC Thursday May 8th, 2014 from 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will take place at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 29 Rock Springs Church Rd, Pittsboro, NC Friday May 9th, 2014 at 3pm. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Dunn family.
