Obituary of Loren Dick Keys

LOREN DICK KEYS, Jr. Loren Dick Keys, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on July 13 in Chapel Hill, NC from lung cancer, attended by his son Loren (Dick) of Scituate, MA. Also surviving are sister Carolyn (Keys) Cook of Charleston, W.Va., two sons William J. of Kennett Square, PA and Thomas S. of Carrboro, NC. and grandchildren Caitlin, Rebecca, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Brenda, Heather, Adam and Jared. He was predeceased by his wife Renetta in 2005, and grandsons William James Keys on April 16, 2011 and Zachary Thomas Keys on November 13, 1987. Loren was born in 1923 at Cincinnati, OH to the late Loren Dick and Ella Louise (Jones) Keys and graduated from Greenwich High School and Dartmouth College ('44) before joining the U.S. Naval Air Force as a pilot. He married Renetta J. Konopka in 1950, and graduated from the Thunderbird, American Institute for Foreign Trade to begin a distinguished career as an intern at Citibank, then an executive at Bankers Trust Corporation with major responsibilities in Latin America and the Far East, resulting in extensive worldwide travel. He lived successively in Phoenix, AZ; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Westfield, NJ; Greenwich, CT; Quechee, VT and Chapel Hill, NC. He was a dedicated husband and father, an accomplished provider, and a lifelong student of business and world events who was fascinated by natural science, taking courses in and practicing birdwatching and was very interested in preserving our natural environment. He challenged his children to be thoughtful, inquisitive and skeptical. Visitation with Keys family members will be Saturday July 26th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill at 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill (919-942-3861). Memorial graveside services and burial will be held at the family plot on Saturday August 9th at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church, Old Greenwich, CT (203-637-1791).
