Obituary of Frank Scott Frederick
Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frank Scott Frederick passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family this Friday, August 29th. He joins his mother and father, his sisters and brothers in a life with Christ forever.
Frank, age 85, was a native of and loved Hillsborough. He was born November 5th, 1928 to Jonah Roscoe Frederick and Rether Dodson Frederick. The last of fourteen children preceded in death by his sisters, Florence, Cleo, infant twins Katherine and Margaret, Blanche, Clara, and Louise; brothers, John, James, William, Roscoe, twins Winfred and Wayne.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Jeanne Lloyd Frederick, of Hillsborough, his childhood sweetheart since the first grade. His children are: Benjamin R. Frederick and wife Ann of Hillsborough, daughter Paula Antoinette Elliott and husband James of Cumming Georgia, daughter Amy Lloyd Roach and husband Bill of Morehead City, and son Rex Scott Frederick and wife Alysa of Hillsborough; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Mickey, Brandon, Ty, John, Aaron, Jessica, Amy, Kyle, Anna, Jake, Isabella, Alexa, Gage and Cole, who will forever cherish the great times with their "Poppy".
Frank served the county as Clerk of Superior Court for 20 years, retiring from elected office in 1985. He was a building contractor for many years and built numerous homes throughout the county. He restored several historic homes and buildings in the area including the All Saint's Episcopal Church, a small military chapel built in 1859.
A graduate of Hillsborough High school in 1948, he attended the University of North Carolina on a scholarship for a short time before leaving to play baseball with a farm team of the Saint Louis Cardinals. His love of baseball, as well as other sports, continued all his life, whether it be coaching the many little league youth and young men's leagues, or attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. The joys of these activities and all the acquaintances he came to know through sports never left him.
Frank loved people, young and old, rarely meeting a person he didn't like, and his many endearing friendships and acquaintances richly sustained him throughout his life. He took pleasure in encouraging others to do their best and was an inspiration to his family and those who knew him.
The family wishes to thank Frank's caregiver, Carolyn Breeze, for her years of loving, kind, always jovial, professional care and the dedicated friendship she shared with Frank and his family; we are forever grateful.
We wish to also thank all the thoughtful caregivers and minister Donnie Addison of Amedisys Hospice .
