I used to live across the road from Clyde and Louise for several years, the house with the pond in front. I think we adopted each other, and I've remained close to Clyde for over 30 years even though most of that time has been from AL. Gary and I have visited Clyde several times, even took him on a mini weekend vacation in our motorhome. He was a little hesitant but accepted the challenge and had the best time. Now that he's gone, I can't even imagine not being able to call him to just talk about ordinary stuff like how much rain he's had "over there", or how the tomatoes and sweet corn are doing, and the (bleep) deer that are eating his grapes and pears on the tree just this side of his back stoop.
I'll never forget the time he just handed me a roll of bills held together with a rubber band when my mother had her massive stroke in FL, knowing I had no money for a plane ticket. "If you can pay me back, that will be fine, if not, that will be fine too", he said.
So, thank you, Clyde, for loving me and watching over me and being my best friend. I will miss you always.....
