Obituary of June Andrews Mackorell

June Andrews Mackorell, 79, went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2014 at UNC Memorial hospital after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. She was born to the late Cleveland D. Andrews and Emily B. Andrews on April 25, 1935 in Gastonia, North Carolina.
On January 19, 1952, June married the love of her life, James T. Mackorell with whom she was married for 62 years.
After completing her degree in Education from the University of North Carolina, June became a beloved kindergarten teacher at St. Thomas More in Chapel Hill, N.C.
where she devoted her life to children for 29 years. She is still remembered by many for teaching her children to sing patriotic songs in her classroom while she accompanied on piano.
In addition to raising her two sons and adoring her four grandchildren, June and Jim enjoyed traveling, enjoyed seeing many Broadway plays and musicals, and also spent many summers with friends vacationing at their home in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
June was a member of the Chapel Hill Bible Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and spent many hours helping her husband with Boy Scout Troop 39 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
June is survived by her husband, James T. Mackorell, of the home. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, James T. Mackorell (Ted) and survived by his wife, Stacy Conn Mackorell, DMD of Boone, NC and his two children, Andrew and Ashley Mackorell of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by one son, Tom Mackorell of Johnson City, T.N., his wife, Julie, and their sons, Will and John.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel Hill Bible Church, 260 Erwin Road, Chapel Hill, N.C. where a reception will immediately follow.
