Obituary of David Michael Farley

David Michael Farley, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at UNC Hospital after a brief illness. He was a long time resident of Chapel Hill, NC. He was born in Buffalo, NY on February 7, 1946, and grew up in St. Rose of Lima parish a block from his home. Dave started playing football in grade school and he played for Canisius High School. His football talents helped him obtain a scholarship to the Citadel where he studied Electrical Engineering. Dave went on to work at IBM for 33 years. After he retired from IBM he went on to work at Adaptec and Lenovo. Dave headed up a local hotdog group called the Dale Rider Hotdog Club. He was full of optimism and had a zest for life which he shared with everyone around him.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Alice, and brother, William Farley. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 43 years. His children, Michael of the home and Jean (Thomas) of Wytheville, VA. His sister-in-law Anne of Glen Ellyn, IL, twin brother Daniel (Cathey) of Little River, SC and brother Jack (Linda) of Boynton Beach, FL. Also, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6-8, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Walkers Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill. Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at St. Thomas More Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill.
Visitation will be held 6-8, Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home, 111 Ben Bolt Avenue, Tazewell, VA. A celebration of life service will held 2:00 PM Friday, December 12, 2014 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home. Burial services will be held in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Bluefield, VA.
