Ijamsville Noel Jack Durham, 76, passed peacefully at his home in Ijamsville on the 7th of January, 2015. He leaves behind his wife and partner of 46 years, Stella; sons Martin Dwayne and Malcolm "Mike"; daughter Beverly; grandchildren Nicole, Kasey, Savanna, Kimberly, Alexis and Justin Durham; and Amanda and Jeremiah Moore. He will also be missed by brother Frank (Theresa); sister Lou Ann Ramsey (Billy Joe); sisters-in- law Donna Justice (Dennis) and Linda Riling; three nieces and six nephews. His sidekicks JoJo Boxer, Shug and Harley (Fred Yamasaki), are grieving our loss. He was known for his infectious laughter, gregarious personality, sense of humor and wit and fondness for nicknames. He will be remembered for his generosity and forgiving nature. Jack was born in Carrboro and attended Carrboro Elementary to Chapel Hill High School. He was a lifelong Tarheel fan and idolized Charlie "Choo-Choo" Justice, a halfback for UNC, growing up. Jack was an Army veteran (1956 - 1962), stationed in Germany for 26 months. He was a die-hard Redskins fan since the sixties. Jack enjoyed growing and sharing his vegetable garden and watching the wildlife around his home. A rodbuster by trade, he has been an Open-Shop reinforcing concrete contractor since 1970, involved in prominent projects in the Raleigh-Durham area, on the Eastern Shores of MD and VA but mostly in the MD, VA and DC Metro area. He truly loved his job and some of the challenges it presented. Jack took advantage of and appreciated every opportunity his was given. He felt his best accomplishment was the opportunity to provide employment and training to so many. He touched many lives on and off the work-site. Jack was devoted to his employees and truly believed everyone needed just that first, second or third chance. He was predeceased by parents Herbert and Mary Louise of Carrboro; sister Mary Etta Burgess; nephew Billy Wayne Ramsey and brother-in-law, Sonny Graves. Funeral services will be held at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, NC on Monday, January 19th at 11AM with internment to follow in Westwood Cemetery, Carrboro, NC.
