Obituary of Martha Eloise Allison

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Martha Eloise (Davis) Allison enjoyed many things in her life. She was an avid bridge player, golfer, and community volunteer. More than any of those things, she was a wonderful wife to the late Dr. Henry W. (Bill) Allison for over 66 years, and was a terrific mother to four daughters raised in Sliver Lake, Ohio. Her legacy is a family including Christine Jones and her husband Fred of Fernandina Beach, FL, Bronwyn Taylor of Stow, Ohio, Mary Beck and her husband Jim of Chapel Hill, NC, and the late Gwynne Allison Bechter. She also was the loving guide for seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her nephews and nieces from the Davis and Allison clans meant the world to her. Eloise left the bounds of earth at age 97 on August 13, 2017 and the world is a lesser place for her leaving. Eloise had a strong faith, grounded in her youth in Oak Hill, Ohio where she grew up in a family proud of its Welsh heritage and traditions. She was a long time member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and the First Congregational Church of Akron. She learned the value of hard work and community service from her parents, the late John "Twin" Davis and Marietta Jones Davis, and her grandparents Rev. G. James and Winifred Jones. Her family included Pauline Davis and Floyd W. McCoy, Jack W. and Virginia Davis, Marilyn Davis and Loraine Zix. Eloise served her community for over 50 years in many ways. She was President of Silver Lake School Home and School League (PTA). She was one of the first volunteers for Meals on Wheels in the Akron area. Teaching Sunday School at the First Congregational Church of Akron was one of her joys. She served proudly as the President of the Summit County Medical Auxiliary. Her skills in writing and editing were reflected in her years of service as the Editor of the Ohio State Medical Auxiliary News. Most of all she supported Bill in his medical practice by caring for and supporting his patients in many ways. She loved life and gave much more than she took. She will be missed by all who knew her and who will remember her joy and laughter. The family thanks the wonderful caregivers at Charles House -Winmore and the staff of UNC Hospice who so lovingly cared for her over the past few years. Her life was better because of their support and love. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Allison family.
