On February 3, 2015 Charles Hughes Williams, 93, went home to his heavenly father. He grew up on the family farm in Cedar Grove where he was able to embrace his love of nature and animals. Charles was a successful baseball player during his years at Efland High School. During WWII a love for traveling grew as he saw the world during his service in the Merchant Marines. He met the love of his life Lillian while in port in New Jersey. They raised four wonderful children and for 62 years continued their love of travel with many trips throughout the U.S. He served as an Elder at Eno Presbyterian Church for many years. He became an avid collector and seller of old toys and enjoyed participating in toy shows with his son.
Surviving are three daughters: Rita W. DuPont (Paul), Maria W. Perry (Alan), and Debbie Williams, one son, Mike Williams (Melody), one brother, John Knox Williams (Daphine), 11 grandchildren: Michael Charles Williams, Jr., Matthew Edward Williams, Marshall Alexander Williams, Nick Perry, Adam Perry, Luke Perry, Yager DuPont, Anna DuPont, Hannah Mae Gordon, Brittany Charlotte Gordon, and Jefferson Taylor Gordon; one great grandson, Jackson Gray O'Neill. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Vance Williams and Beulah Hughes Williams, his wife, Lillian Koelln Williams, two sisters: Mattie Rene Hayden and Beaulah Anne Hayden, and one brother, Jesse James Williams.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday in Eno Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Friday in Walker's Funeral Home. Walkersfuneralservice.com
