Obituary of Carrie Camelia Compton Lloyd

Carrie Camelia Compton Lloyd, age 82 of Efland, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, February 6, 2015 after an extended illness. She was born on May 12, 1932 to the late Ralph and Carrie Compton. She, along with her 6 brothers- Kenneth, Robert, Charlie, Fred, Burch and Harry- grew up on a tobacco farm in Cedar Grove, NC. Camelia attended Cedar Grove High School where she was a star player on the basketball team. After graduating from Louisburg College, she worked at the Orange County Health Department. She married Ben Lloyd on December 29, 1956. They lived in Coronado, California and Norfolk, Virginia the first few years of their married life while Ben completed his service in the U.S. Navy. After returning to NC, she worked at the Hillsborough Savings and Loan Bank for several years. She loved her family and was a devoted wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She grew up as a member of Eno Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove. Upon her marriage, she joined the Efland United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Choir, the United Methodist Women, served as the local Girl Scout leader and delivered food for Meals on Wheels in Orange County for many years. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a member of her beloved Ladies Bible Study group for numerous years. She loved to sing, play the piano, decorate and read. She enjoyed travel across the U.S. and abroad as well as many family gatherings and trips. She had great faith, humility, compassion, patience and a wonderful sense of humor. Camelia is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ben, along with 4 children- Cheryl Humphrey and her husband Scott of Hillsborough, Andy Lloyd, Craig Lloyd and his wife Angela of Efland, and Chad Lloyd and his wife Vicki of Matthews, NC. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren who loved her very much. The family wishes to thank her caregivers- especially Sheila, Evonda, Rosie and Glenda- for their loving assistance in taking care of her during her illness. Visitation is from 6:30-8:30 pm on Monday, February 9th at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough. The funeral service will be 3 PM on Tuesday, February, 10th 2015 at Efland United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken McLean and Rev. Bob Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at the Efland United Methodist cemetery on Brookhollow Road in Efland.
