Obituary of Iris Trotter Zachary

-Carroboro- Iris Trotter Hogan Zachary, a long time resident of Carrboro, passed away Sunday February 15, peacefully at home, after a short valiant and courageous battle with lung cancer. Iris was born January 19, 1922 in Asheboro to the Clarence A. Trotter and Velna Bernice Trotter. In her earlier years, she was employed by the University laundry and the Carrboro hosiery mill, retiring from the University of North Carolina printing shop. She is survived by her brothers, William Collier Hill of Waxahachie, Texas and Vernon Ivalee Hill of Raleigh. She is also survived by her loving son-in-law Tim Greene of Chapel Hill, her granddaughters Barbara Dawson (Youngsville) and Karen Moriarty (Chapel Hill). She is also survived by her great- granddaughter Kristy Sloan and great- grand son Carl Moriarty and great, great granddaughter Riley Maynor. She is preceded in death by her first husband Carl Craig Hogan, killed in the Normandy (France) invasion, WW II 1944 and her second husband, Wilson Lindley Zachary. She is also preceded in death by her only child, Catherine (Kay) Hogan Jones Greene on December 23, 2014. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Thelma T. Clark (Atlanta) and Eva Mae Hill (Carrboro), her brother Daniel Wesley Hill (Hillsborough) and grand son Carl Jones (Chapel Hill). A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 23 at 2:00 PM at Clover Gardens United Methodist Church . Following the service, there will be a fellowship at the Church. Arrangements are being made through Walker's Funeral Home, Chapel Hill. On line condolences may be left at www.walkersfuneralservice.com. " Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home."
