Obituary of Wayne Wright Tilley

Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough, NC, 919-732-2121 Orange County Hillsborough - Mr. Wayne Wright Tilley, 82, died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM. A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Betsy Hall Tilley who survives, and the son of the late Lacy H. Tilley, Sr. and Mrs. Mildred Riley Tilley of Hurdle Mills, NC. Mr. Tilley served in the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment of the U.S. Army from February 1953 to February 1955, and retired from Duke Energy. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, Hillsborough, NC. In addition to his wife, Betsy, of the home, Mr. Tilley is survived by one daughter, Terri Tilley Pope, husband Douglas Warren Pope of Cedar Grove, NC, three grandchildren, Meghan Pope of Mebane, Lindsey Pope Brink, husband Billy of Oxford, Ohio, and Zack Pope of Wilmington, NC, one great grandson, Owen Brink and a great granddaughter, Dylan Cait Brink due on April 14. Mr. Tilley also had two four legged household members, Sam and Teddy Bear who will greatly miss him. Through the years Mr. Tilley loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, etc. He was an avid collector of old automobiles, especially Ford Mustangs and Thunderbirds and a collector of old model toys that he enjoyed very much. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Mars Hill Baptist Church, Hillsborough, N.C. by the Rev. Daniel Gregory and burial in the church cemetery with military honors.
