Obituary of Jean Wilson Blackwood

Chapel Hill Jean Wilson Blackwood passed away on March 12, 2015 at her home in Chapel Hill, surrounded by her family. Jean was the daughter of the late Marvin and Sudie Wilson. She was born in Raleigh on April 30, 1929. She married Milton Evander Blackwood in 1958. They made their home in Chapel Hill. She took particular joy in shopping with her girls, cooking for her family and friends, and having long chats with her friends. Jean worked at Foisters Camera Store in Chapel Hill, before marrying. Years later, she worked at Shirley Fisher's Physical Therapy Office in Chapel Hill. Jean was a devoted wife and adoring mother and grandma. Jean is survived by her husband, Milton Blackwood, three daughters, Vanessa Blackwood-Spinks and husband Rick Spinks of Hillsborough, Glenda Blackwood of Chapel Hill, and Rhonda Dear and husband Guy Dear of Durham; one son, Van Blackwood and wife Rachel Blackwood of Derwood, Maryland; grandchildren Elizabeth Spinks, Allison Dear, and Caroline Dear. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lou Guins of Wendell as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her brother Johnny Wilson and sisters Helen W. Baker and Peggy Quinn. The family would like to thank her many friends for their loving support, especially Clara Ferguson, Faye Lloyd, Sandra Morgan, and Peggy Douglas. UNC Hospice and Homewatch Caregivers also provided excellent support to Jean and her family. There will be a visitation at 2pm on Sunday, March 15 at Bethel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. There will be a service following at 3pm, also at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 9326 Bethel Hickory Grove Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
