Leonard Lamar Wright CHAPEL HILL - Leonard Lamar Wright passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He passed away peacefully at Shallotte Assisted living in Shallotte, North Carolina on June 7 approximately 6:25 PM at the age of 74. Leonard is predeceased by his son David Wright, sister Martha Robertson, brother JD Wright and sister-in-law Lelia Livengood. Leonard was married to Linda Carol Wright for 32 years. They were joined together in marriage at Carrboro United Methodist Church in 1963. Unfortunately Linda passed away at the age of 49 in 1995. Leonard is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Tucker Vance Wright and Caroline Elizabeth Wright as well as daughter-in-law Tracy Fuller Wright, his niece Cheryl Lynn Pahwa, nephews Charles Wayne Wright and William Christopher Wright of Chapel Hill North Carolina. Leonard was born in Chapel Hill on May 17, 1941, and graduated from Chapel Hill high school in 1960. After completing high school he enlisted in the Army reserves. Shortly after being discharged, he began his career working with Calvin Mellott at Mellott Contractors. He continued on with Scott oil company, then Scott Rentals. The majority of his career he spent with the town of Carrboro as assistant director for public works. But Leonards true love was carpentry. He and Linda as well as his father built his personal home from the ground up. He contributed to the uprising of the Tarheel Sertoma Club. As well as the contribution to the upkeep of the Sertoma 4H camp. One very important part of my father's life was helping people. You could see it in his face, he seemed to blossom when he was able to help someone in need. He always seemed as if he was on call. Leonard was very much involved in the Tar Heels Sertoma club. Where he contributed a great number of loving hours to Sertoma 4H camp for the deaf and hard of hearing children. The visitation and service will be held at Orange United Methodist Church, at 1220 Airport Rd(MLK), Chapel Hill. We will begin with visitation at 2 o'clock followed by the Funeral service at 3 o'clock. The graveside Burial will immediately follow the funeral service. Leonard will be laid to rest at Coles cemetery, off Smith level Road.
