Obituary of Michael Paul Garzilli
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Paul Garzilli, 89, died Wednesday, June 24th, 2015 at his home in Pittsboro, NC following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa, daughter Debra Shaver, daughter Valerie Furrier and husband Paul, and son Robert Garzilli and fiancé Carol Grundy, grandchildren, Michelle, Ryan, Olivia and Lara.
Born in the Bronx on March 1, 1926 to Francesco and Maria Garzilli. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy at 17 years old, where he was an Aviation Machinist.
Upon returning from service in 1946, Michael worked as a seamstress for Oleg Cassini in the garment district in NYC. He went on to a career in building management , for 36 years, with Cushman and Wakefield..
Michael and Theresa raised their family and dog, Friend in Dumont, NJ. In 1988, when he retired, they moved to Boynton Beach, Florida. He took up the game of golf and achieved his dream of a hole in one. He will best be remembered by his golfing buddies, though, for complaining that they never offered him a "gimme" even if he was 10 feet from the hole! He loved the game and was always best dressed on the course!
Michael had a wonderful sense of humor and a killer smile. He would tell stories that had his family and friends overcome with bouts of laughter. He was dedicated to his family throughout his life and truly relished being a grandfather to his beloved grandchildren. Always quick-witted and willing to "put on a show" he spent countless hours playing and laughing with them.
Our husband, father, grandfather and friend was much loved and will be missed. We will hear the laughter from heaven now, as he has moved his show to another place. Till we meet again.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10am, June 27th at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Garzilli family.
