I remember Mr. Kirkland when I first came to New Hope, back in the 90's. With his big smile and extended hand, he shook my hand and said "welcome". I knew he wanted us there.
After some small talk, he asked me if I was a Veteran, and I replied "yes". While still shaking my hand he patted me on the back saying "I'm glad you made it home son....come on in".
That still echo's in my mind. For my service, in my era....we weren't normally "welcomed" home.
Over the years, while at new Hope.....Al told me some incredible stories about New Hope. Being I was a "History" buff....my ears were glued to everything he said.
Rest in Peace Al.....
