I'm fortunate to have grown up with this family in my life. I've heard Hoang Banh sing and seen his smile so many times. He was always so gracious and welcoming. His family is my family.

I have fond memories of Uncle Banh - he was extremely generous and always made me feel at home whenever I saw him. I will always remember his warm and beaming smile and singing karaoke. I am thinking of the Banh family and sending you my love and condolences.

Kumkum was really someone to look up to not just as a son, father, and grandfather, but a true idol. He showed so much care and compassion for everyone around him and never failed to make you laugh here and there from a silly comment. Family was always the number one priority on his list and would not rest until he saw that we were all satisfied. Just witnessing a simple smile from him had more power than an entire nation's energy source to make you smile brighter than 1000 watts. It was great to see how much he cared about making memories by taking pictures whenever he had the chance to and how he made them that much better to look at. Another thing that will live on in our memories alongside himself is his generosity and his love for taking us all out to K&W. Although we are going through a massive loss, we will not fail to reciprocate the relief that has restored him and the endings to the suffering he has battled. I know I would not have been able to fight back my tears if I had witnessed the scene of his peaceful transfer, but from an earlier personal discussion with him and a promise I have made to him, I am holding strong and not shedding a single tear of sadness for his departure. Kumkum, I love you, and rest in wonderful peace.

I miss you Gong Gong. Thank you for letting Ruth and me watch Disney channel even when you were watching the news, thank you for supporting me while I sang and clapping when I finished. My love for music most likely came from you. The laptop you gave me is still in pristine condition, I use it for school and of course video games :)

The hospice team notified me Monday of your dad's death and it is good to hear more detail from you. Your father lived much longer than anyone expected, which must have reflected his resilience and fortitude. Throughout the years that I had the privilege of knowing him, one thing that stood out was his love of his family. He spoke with such pride regarding his children. He was also devoted to your mother, and my thoughts are with her as she adjusts to life without him.

My most memorable time visiting China was with Pa and Chi. We went to Xiamen to visit the home town of Hoang's father. The stores had refrigerators in the hope that electricity would soon arrive. The salt flats that the town was famous for were still there, just as Pa's father told him.
We walked to a temple and found the engraved name of Hoang's father who had made a donation in 1921. At that time he was the first son to return to their roots in China. It was a festival day and within two hours Pa went from speaking Mandarin to Fukinese. He was a local boy again. He was great with languages and people and it was a day we would never forget.
