James David Johnson, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2015 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. David is survived by his daughters, Sarah Waddell (husband David and grandson Carter Grace) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Beth Patterson (husband Herb and grandchildren Abigail and Matt) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces, a nephew and numerous family members in Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Eileen Jayne Johnson; his twin brother William Dana Johnson; brother Guy Allen Johnson, an infant brother and granddaughter Lauren Ashley Patterson. David was born April 7, 1924 in Jonesboro, Tennessee to Sarah Augusta Love and James E. Johnson. He graduated from Lamar High School then joined the United States Navy with his brother Dana. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority but spent the majority of his life as a realtor in Johnson City, Tennessee. David and Eileen were lifelong members of First United Methodist Church in Johnson City prior to moving in 2012. David was a social man and loved reminiscing about his time in the Navy and his life growing up on the Nolichucky River. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and gardener. Through his work as a realtor he met many people and had many friends he enjoyed keeping in contact with, even though he no longer lived in Johnson City. During the time he lived in Chapel Hill he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and their cat, Charlie. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 30th at 2pm in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Schmader and Dr. Adedayo Fashoyin for their kind and dedicated care.
