Obituary of Frances Bowden Cheek

Mrs. Frances Bowden Cheek, 88, of Moriah Rd. in Rougemont, formerly of Chapel Hill, died November 28, 2015 in her home. Mrs. Cheek was born in Orange County on April 1, 1927, a daughter of Charlie Bowden and Notie O'Daniel Bowden. She was primarily a homemaker, but had a well rounded career working with Harris-Conner Chevrolet, Foster's Camera, Belks and also at Granville Towers. Mrs. Cheek loved her family and enjoyed working in her garden. She was a life time member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, GA leader and was a member of the choir. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cheek was predeceased by her husband, W. Toy Cheek; a brother, Daniel Bowden; and a sister, Peggy Bowden Riggsbee. Survivors include her daughters, Becky Meadows of Rougemont, and Donna Quay of Chapel Hill; brothers, Braxton Bowden of Chapel Hill and Donal Bowden of Elon; sister, Jean Bowden Roberson of Graham; grandchildren, Lisa Benson, Anthony Benson, Thomas Meadows, III, and Amy Keeter; and great-grandchildren, Makala Marlowe, Emmitt Keeter and Delilah Keeter. The funeral service for Mrs. Cheek will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, December 2, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church, with Pastor Elmer Lee Joyner presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family before the service from 1:00 - 1:45 pm, and also in the fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church, 9326 Bethel - Hickory Grove Church Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Online condolences may be left at walkersfuneralservice.com.
