Obituary of Mary Georgia Blackwell McCuen

Mary Blackwell McCuen of Durham, passed away on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at her home.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1937 in Greenville, South Carolina. Mary was the daughter of the late George Franklin Blackwell and Nell Hudson Blackwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Claude Holbert “Red” McCuen. Mary graduated from Taylors High School. She attended Winthrop College and during her college days married Claude Holbert. They moved to Houston Texas for one year. Then moved to Jackson, Mississippi for 30 years. After her husband’s death, she moved to Boone, NC and finally Durham, NC. She was truly a family care person and enjoyed sports, the garden club and symphony league.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Frances McCuen; three sons, George Bradley McCuen and Janice, David Harold McCuen and Sherri, Claude Holbert “Hob” McCuen; one sister, Janet Blackwell Griffith and Dr. Dale Griffith; four grandchildren, Katherine Kelley McCuen, Victoria Ashley Hicks, Claude Holbert III “Trey” and Morgan Lindsay McCuen; two great granddaughters, Vivienne LeBlanc and Georgina LeBlanc. May she rest in peace for a job well done. She will be missed by all.
A Graveside service was held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1:30PM at Danner Cemetery in Valle Crusis, NC.
