Helen Wall Crumpler

Helen Wall Crumpler, 92, of Hillsborough North Carolina, fondly known to many as “Honey”, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday May 30th, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.

Helen was born August 23, 1929, to the late Adolphus Wall and Ruth Barber Wall Blackmon in Wilson NC.  She was predeceased by her husband, Clem W. Crumpler.  Helen grew up in Mt. Olive NC and moved to Richmond in the late 1950’s.  After moving from Richmond VA to Durham NC in 1969, Helen went to work at the University of NC News Bureau in Chapel Hill, retiring in 1990.  After her husband’s death in 2001, Helen and her Aunt Vi Traxel bought a house together Hillsborough and became roommates.  Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hillsborough NC.

Helen loved spending countless hours in her yard, making it the envy of the neighborhood.  Up until March of this year, you could always find her trimming bushes or weeding her flower beds.  She didn’t believe in letting her age slow her down.  Her true passion in life was her family.  She was the caregiver for her mother, her husband and her precious Aunt Vi up until their deaths and babysat her youngest grandson after he was born.  Caring for her family gave her great joy and purpose.  Helen was a kind and giving soul and truly an angel on earth that will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She leaves behind a daughter, Donna Crawford Moore and husband Mark, grandchildren, Garrett Crawford and wife Ashley, Danny Crumpler Jr. and Amy Beth Johnson and husband, Jason as well as four great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her special friend and neighbor, Jan Irwin, who was such a blessing in her life.  They shared a love of gardening and often exchanged flowers and food with one another.  Jan checked on her daily.

Graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham NC on Saturday June 4th, 2022, at 11:00am.

Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough is assisting the family.
