Obituary of Janice Humes Walters

Janice Humes Walters, 71, of Chapel Hill, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19th.

Janice was born to Dwight and Marjorie Humes in Delaware, Ohio, where she was raised and later met her high school sweetheart. She attended the University of Miami (Ohio) before getting married and moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1980 to create family roots. 

Janice worked for 28 years as an Administrator with Durham Nephrology Associates and instilled a resolute work ethic in both of her children while never missing a central moment of their lives. Always thoughtful and selfless, she was often the quietest person in a room but always the most cherished. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by family during summer beach trips, eating berries of any variety and spending time with her adored grandchildren Leah, Alex, Lukas, Finley and Sutton.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Mike, as well as daughter Erin (Angel) Oropeza of Houston, TX, son Josh (Emily) Walters of Chapel Hill, NC and sister Jo Ann Humes of Columbus, OH. 

A celebration of life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider a donation to the Bald Head Island Conservancy, Parker Elementary PTO (Houston) or Ephesus Elementary PTA (Chapel Hill).
