Obituary of Lisa Marie Seman Tobin Fitzpatrick

Lisa Marie Seman Tobin Fitzpatrick, aged 59, died of cancer on December 28, 2023 at the AuthoraCare Hospice in Burlington. She was born on February 7th, 1964 at Andrew Air Force Base in Virginia, to John Frederick Seman II and Sue Wiard Seman, and was married to Douglas Carl Fitzpatrick. Lisa went to High School in New Town Connecticut, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Eastern Connecticut State University. In high school and college she worked part-time as a phlebotomist. She married Michael Tobin with whom she had two wonderful children, Ellen Nicole Tobin and Ian Michael Tobin. Ellen passed away in 2014 but Lisa is survived by her son Ian. After divorcing in 1997, she married Douglas Fitzpatrick in 1999 who was a co-worker in a laboratory at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. The family moved to North Carolina in 1999 where Douglas took a faculty position at UNC Chapel Hill and Lisa became a teacher’s aide before becoming certified as a teacher in 2001. Lisa taught math to exceptional children in inclusive settings at Woodlawn Middle School in Mebane, Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough, and Eno River Academy in Hillsborough. She is fondly remembered by the many students she taught and faculty that she taught with. She was an active member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Mebane where she served on the Session. She was a dedicated knitter and formed many lasting friendships with her knitting circles. She is survived by her husband Doug, son Ian and Kate Fussell, her brother John Frederick Seman III and his wife Virginia and their children John and Megan, and step children Michael, Brian (deceased, with surviving wife Jenifer Fitzpatrick) and Sean Fitzpatrick and his fiancé Danielle Shea. Lisa was loved by many for her kindness, quick sense of humor, and many passions including her family, her church, her work, and her friends. A service to celebrate Lisa will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 6th at Cross Roads Church (3302 NC-119 in Mebane) followed by the burial and light refreshments in the Fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ellen Tobin Memorial Fund, a charity Lisa founded to sponsor horse riding lessons and other services for needy children.
