Obituary of Roger Pendleton

Roger Gregory Pendleton, 71, died Sunday, March 27th 2016 at his home in Chapel Hill after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Bettie Suthers Pendleton; his daughter, Amie Pendleton Palmer and her husband, Jonathan James Palmer; three grandchildren, Serena Marie Palmer, Isaac Benjamin Palmer, and Roselyn Elizabeth Palmer; two brothers, Thomas Willis Pendleton and William Beale Pendleton. He was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Miles Pendleton and Nathan Albert Pendleton.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia and raised in Wytheville, Virginia, he was the son of Thomas Willis and Edith Louise Jones Pendleton.
After graduating from George Wythe High School, he attended Danville Technical Institute in Danville, Virginia for two years before marrying his beloved wife, Bettie Suthers in 1967 at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Wytheville
Roger lived in Danville, Virginia for most of his adult life where he was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and served as a firefighter at Westover Hills Volunteer Fire Department.
Following his second diagnosis with cancer, Bettie and Roger moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2012. He was blessed with many friends and a wonderfully active church family at University United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held at University United Methodist in Chapel Hill on March 31st at 10am followed by burial in Wytheville, Virginia at 5pm in West End Cemetery.
