Obituary of Ruby Laws York

Ruby Laws York, long time resident of Smithfield, NC, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2016. Ruby was born in Hillsborough, NC to John and Ora Laws. She attended Watts Nursing School in Durham, and then went to Anesthesia school. She worked in Goldsboro before practicing at Johnston Memorial in Smithfield for 30 years. After her retirement, she volunteered with Hospice for many years. Ruby loved golf, travel, dancing and big band music. Ruby always had a servant's heart and frequently provided transportation for friends in need. She is survived by three nieces, one nephew, and six great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Wilbur Wilson. Memorial gifts may be made to Centenary Methodist Church, 140 E. Market St. Smithfield, NC 27577. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Centenary Methodist Church at 3:00, led by Rev. Meagan Matthews.
