Obituary of Margaret Montgomery Gibson

Mrs. Margaret Montgomery Gibson (Peg), wife of the late Col. Baylor Price Gibson Jr., died October, 12th, 2017.
Mrs. Gibson was born March the 26, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Brigadier General and Mrs. Edward A. Montgomery of Augusta, Georgia. Margaret (Peg) grew up as "a Marine brat" moving as her father moved from duty station to duty station in her early years. She was one of three children and was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Montgomery, Jr. (Fuzzy) and her sister Blair McKelvey.
She attended Immaculatta College in Washington, DC for one year before meeting and marrying her husband, Baylor Price Gibson, Jr. of Pennington Gap, Va. He was a Captain in the US Marine Corp and fighter pilot, like her father. They were married at the Post Chapel on March 25th, 1950 in Cherry Point, NC.
Peg was the Mother of five sons and raised them while her husband flew in combat Missions during two more wars until his retirement from the US Marine Corp. The family moved to Evanston, Illinois where Peg worked in The Northwestern University School of Journalism and eventually earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University.
Peg and Baylor retired to Chapel Hill, NC. She enjoyed a number of activities while residing in Chapel Hill including the Choir at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She participated with the local chapter of the D.A.R and spent many happy hours in her yard gardening. Peg enjoyed watching her extended family grow with many grandchildren and recent great-grandchild.
She is survived by four of her five sons: Baylor Price Gibson III (Linda) of La Crescenta, California, Dr. Clayton T. Gibson (Lisa) of Coshocton, Ohio, Scott M. Gibson of Frisco, Texas, and Dr. Alexander O. Gibson (Teresa)of Ann Arbor Michigan. Her youngest son, Eric, is deceased. She is survived by 6 Grandchildren: Dr. William T. Gibson, Susan Gibson Hill (Chandler), Margaret Jane Gibson, Elizabeth Gibson Gardner (Jonathan), Sarah Gibson Cortes (Anthony), Corine Gibson and great -grandson, Elijah Gardner.
A Vigil for Peg will be held on Wednesday, November 29th from 7:00-9:00 PM at Walker's Funeral home of Chapel Hill followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill, NC on Thursday, November 30th at 2:30 pm. Peg will be interred with her late husband, Baylor, in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
